SMM5, May 15: on May 14, 2019, Yunnan Tengchong closed the border with Myanmar, banning all rare earth business-related commodities from import and export trade. It has been confirmed that the customs gate has been closed, do not accept any rare earth related commodity declaration, rare earth mines can no longer be exported from Myanmar to China.
On the supply side, about 25829 tons of ionized minerals were imported from Myanmar in 2018 and 4035.4 tons in the first quarter of 2019, down 45 per cent from a year earlier and 9.9 per cent from a month earlier. The output of southern China is maintained at a low level due to environmental protection and other factors. Since today, imports of ionic rare earth minerals from Myanmar have been restricted. At present, there is no specific statement and time for the resumption of imports. The supply news is positive, and the prices of medium and heavy rare earths, mainly dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide, have continued to rise. At present, the price of dysprosium oxide has risen from 148-1.49 million yuan / ton at the end of Labour Day holiday to 158-1.6 million yuan / ton, and the price of terbium oxide has risen from 314-3.17 million yuan / ton to 322-3.25 million yuan / ton. As market participants generally expect that the prices of dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide still have room to rise, the holding and selling mood of the holders is relatively strong, the supply of goods in circulation on the market is relatively few, and the transaction price is relatively high. Today, the transaction price of dysprosium oxide is about 158-1.6 million yuan / ton.
On the demand side, due to the high cost of dysprosium oxide and the existence of products that can partially replace dysprosium oxide, downstream enterprises only purchase on demand.
